Whether you choose to breastfeed or bottlefeed there are several ways you can bond with baby whilst feeding.
- Skin-to-skin: babies enjoy the skin-to-skin contact that’s part of breasfeeding but there’s no reason why you can’t have the same experience when bottle-feeding. Try feeding your baby while you’re both lying down, with baby close to you and their head elevated on your arm, or cradled in your arm and nestled next to your chest.
- Quiet time: ditch the distractions and make feeding baby the only task at hand; take advantage of every moment spent feeding to bond with baby.
- Face to face: maintain eye contact with baby while feeding; baby’s the perfect distance from you to be able to focus on your face; let him know he’s the most important thing in your world!
- Talk to your baby: feeding time is the perfect time to talk to your baby; create a feeding ritual that baby will thrive on; sing the same songs to them; talk to them about their families, how much you love their little toes, fingers, etc. Baby will especially enjoy hearing you using a sing-song voice just for him.
